Day of Hope – WFRN Radio, Elkhart/Indiana

Would you please pray for me the next few days? I’m planning to be on-air in Indiana (Elkhart/South Bend) at WFRN Radio raising awareness and funds for Cross International. Our focus will be providing for critical care orphans and children in Mozambique, Africa.  Only $68 provides food, clothes, preventative medical care, educational expenses, or other basic needs of one child for an entire year. Many of these kids have been orphaned by the African AIDS epidemic. To stream WFRN live during the broadcast (Tuesday & Wednesday), go here. Read the story here of 16-year-old Sandra and her siblings – ages, 12, 10, and 6. To support one child for an entire year for $68, go here. Thanks.

African orphan support – $68/year

Here’s a wonderful opportunity for you to become faithful with a little: The Reencontro Orphans Project in Mozambique provides direct support to more than 7000 orphans and other vulnerable children in Mozambique, Africa. Reencontro is composed of local Christian laypersons and cares for these children, many of whom have lost parents to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Incredibly enough, $68 provides food, clothing, health care, education or other essentials for a child for approximately one year. Orphans receive food, education, citizenship registration (documentation they need in order to attend school), healthcare, housing, vocational training, income generation projects, and spiritual and psychological counseling. Would you and your worship team be willing to be musical advocates for the Reencontro Orphans Project this fall? If you would present a song during one of your services in September or October, I will provide you brochures, free music, free DVD/audio tracks to support these parentless children in Mozambique. Every single dime raised from your event will go directly to the Reencontro orphans. Call me for details:  1-800-391-8545 ext. 174. Kayaking for Christ

Mark Towery is circumnavigating Vancouver Island solo to raise money for the Kondanani Children’s Village in Blantyre, Malawi, one of our projects at Cross International. From Mark’s website: Most of the world does not know life with the privileges that we have here in America. Imagine as a child never having enough food, medicine or even a place to live. A lot of children in this region do not live to see adulthood. Many of them will never have the chance to know Jesus, or hear the wonderful words the Bible holds. Some Americans may have mixed feelings about giving money that goes to help outside of this country but in God’s eyes is any one child, no matter where they were born or currently live, more important than another? Here in America there are so many more programs for the poor that other countries, such as Malawi, simply do not have the resources. Track Mark’s progress from his website here. Please pray for him and the Kondanani Children’s Village in Malawi.

Billionaire Buffett serves the African poor

Howard Buffett, son of famed Wall Street guru and billionaire Warren Buffett, is spending not just his finances but also his life fighting hunger in Africa. According to the Wall Street Journal: It was ordained that Howard and his two siblings would see the family fortune given away rather than have it to spend on themselves. His father, who lives far below his means in a modest Omaha house, has argued publicly that it does little good for society when children inherit great wealth by virtue of an ‘ovarian lottery’…Of his middle child, he says, ‘he’s got my money and his mother’s heart’… It’s hard to measure the impact of Howard Buffett’s foundation, something Mr. Buffett himself acknowledges. He does most of the work finding and visiting projects…. He employs eight people, mostly in administrative roles. One man is based in South Africa overseeing research on Mr. Buffett’s 6,000 acres of farmland outside Johannesburg. It was there on a wildlife preserve that he set up that a cheetah bit him. Mr. Buffett figures his foundation’s projects have helped about 1.5 million Africans so far. He hopes that the crop-breeding work he is supporting will eventually help millions more African farmers feed their families. Video below is excellent and worth a few minutes of your time. African 15-year-old AIDS orphan triumphs

Our African project officer, Jim Kline, recently returned from a several-week trip to Africa where he met He visited the Reencontro orphan project in Mozambique, which provides care to about 7,000 orphans and vulnerable children in Maputo, including Zeinabo, a 15-year-old double AIDS orphan (below). Zeinabo moved in with her aunt after her parents died and split her day between a vocational tailoring program at Reencontro and her many chores at home. However, her aunt became angry that she was spending so much time at the training program — time she could have spend doing chores.   One day in a rage, she poured hot water on Zeinabo’s feet, thinking it would prevent her from making the long walk to Reencontro. But what was intended for evil, God turned to good! Read the rest of the story from CrossFieldBlog.org here.
