Do you remember the last time you heard from Scott?

Me neither.

I almost forgot about him until I saw this video posted. The explanation of the song (below the video) is worth reading.

Scott says about the video:

Carl Sagan said, “The Cosmos is all that is or ever was or ever will be.”

Richard Dawkins said, “The entire thrust of my position is that Christian theology is a non-subject. It is empty. Vacuous. Devoid of coherence or content…”

The Apostle Paul said, “God’s eternal nature and deity have been clearly perceived in his creation (Rom. 1:20) and the psalmist said, “The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament his handiwork.” (Ps. 19:1)

My prayer is that “I Believe In God” would be a rally song for the Church against the rising tide of Atheism in our culture. In a sense this worship song fits into “apologetics”, a defense of our faith in the Triune God and his marvelous works!

English philosopher & writer Roger Scruton thinks so, and maintains we have traded beauty and skill for ideas and shock value. Although not coming from a particularly “Christian” point of view, I think he has a point.

After a recent museum trip, I’m glad to see that he thinks much of ‘modern art’ is actually poking fun at the concept of art and the ‘modern art’ movement.

Here’s the description of the video:

In the 20th century, Scruton argues, art, architecture and music turned their backs on beauty, making a cult of ugliness and leading us into a spiritual desert.

Using the thoughts of philosophers from Plato to Kant, and by talking to artists Michael Craig-Martin and Alexander Stoddart, Scruton analyzes where art went wrong and presents his own impassioned case for restoring beauty to its traditional position at the center of our civilization.
