Getting things done with a committee
Christopher Hopper talks about collaboration and has five tips @ CatalystSpace on how to affect it:
- Designate a point person
- Develop consensus (not unanimity)
- Compromise promotes ownership
- Sharing canvases carte blanche
- Open air policy
These strike me as healthy and achievable, but not easy.
How does your team collaborate?

Not easy? Good point! It’s taken me the better part of 15 years to figure out those “top 5,” and probably the next 15 years to start to be good at them! OK…so I’m being a bit melodramatic. I’m “fairly good” at them now. But as you said, not easy. I think an individual’s ability to develop in these 5 actually has a great deal to do with their personal character. It takes a big person to be able to grasp some of those initiatives, and really mean them from their heart, not just grit their teeth and try smiling. Picking teams of people with a high level of character will go a long way in lowering the “not easy” intensity. And that in and of itself is…well…sometimes not easy. Thanks for all you guys do at HoH! ch:
