Moby on piracy, technology, and the biz
“I never expected to have a career as a musician. I never expected to have a record contract. I thought that at age 43 that I’d be teaching community college in Danberry, Connecticut, maybe working in a bookstore, and working on music and playing it for a long-suffering girlfriend who was being charitible.”
So says Moby in a three-part video interview with WSJ.com.
He reflects on 10 years in the music biz , technology, and piracy and gives takes on recording in your basement, AutoTune, ProTools, and the fact that Rolling Stone refused to review his first album.
Moby comes off entirely unassuming, grateful, and as someone who never planned to do what he’s doing. He seems like a guy you’d enjoy talking with over coffee.
Below is segment #3 on piracy, which I found the most interesting. Quoteable Moby: “If someone wants to steal from me, more power to him.”
